Arpetrio Drops In on Virginia Beach
Arpetrio, the Knoxville-based EDM trio, landed at Doc Taylor’s Seaside Market & Lounge in Virginia Beach last Thursday, the second stop on a four-city run that included Richmond and Waynesboro, VA and finished up in Boone, NC. The band is extremely popular here, usually playing three shows a year at this venue. Thursday’s crowd was as big and energetic as usual, ready for the boys to drop some serious beats. Arpetrio delivered with a two-set show that was primarily derived from their latest album, Catch The Vibe, which was released this past October.
Guitarist/synth/Ableton guru Alex Mindermann got things started with Drones, a new mix that hasn’t been released on any of the band’s six recordings. Wes Taylor and Trent Little (on drums and bass respectively), joined the show as they moved into a mash up of New Reason/New Planet from their initial EP, Encrypted Layers. This was followed by the catchy Let Yourself Go from their new album, then they reached all the way back again to their initial EP for the ethereal Spooky. When they dropped the hammer on MRI, a cut from their This Side Up CD, the crowd went wild! It was a great tune to finish the first set.
The second set featured the remaining four tunes from Catch The Vibe, with Excitamine from their Barcodes CD sandwiched in the middle. They finished the night with the title track from their 2012 release, Triggology. Between the mad beats and their impressive lighting, Arpetrio definitely delivered. The Doc Taylor’s crowd is already looking forward to their next visit.
