Elton John helps NYC ring in the New Year

New York City was abuzz on New Years Eve, as it always is of course. Instead of braving the cold to stand in Times Square or going to Madison Square Garden to see the EDM powerhouse Jack U, we decided to spend our night with the legend Sir Elton John. This was the rocket mans first New Years Eve show in New York City and also his first time playing at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn’s state of the art arena which has only been open since 2012.

The night was very reminiscent of his close out set during this past years Bonnaroo, touching on all the classics. His two-hour set ranged from Candle in the Wind to Crocodile Rock, causing everyone to rise from their seats to dance. Just as the ball dropped 7 miles away, a live stream of the show was broadcasted into viewers homes all over the country who were tuning in to Dick Clarks New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. When the clock struck midnight confetti and balloons cascaded down into the audience and Elton brought a special guest on stage. It was his cousin, who then proposed to his girlfriend. She of course said yes, and the entire arena cheered for the couple. Overall, it was a magical evening and a wonderful way to send off 2014.
