The Peach Music Festival lineup is pure gold once again

The instant that the Allman Brothers Band announced that they would throw a Wanee-like party in the Northeast in 2012, it was guaranteed to be a smash. In each year since, the Peach Music Festival has hosted the biggest names in the jam and rock community. The fact that the Allman Brothers are now officially retired detracts not one bit from this amazing collection of artists. Take it from the Allman Brother himself.

“I can’t wait to be back at the Peach in 2015,” says Gregg Allman. “The fans at Montage love what we do so much, and the bands feed off that. The Peach is always a great time.”

Montage Mountain in Scranton PA is once again home to the Peach Music Festival, and this year’s lineup is stunning. The fest runs from Thursday, August 13th, to Sunday, August 16th. And Thursday gets rolling right from the start.

TAUK brings their heavy instrumental rock fusion, followed by jamtronic Zoogma. Cabinet is an excellent bluegrass band from Scranton, followed by a reunion of funkateers Deep Banana Blackout. And Dark Star Orchestra caps the first night with two sets to celebrate this Fare Thee Well year. Get some sleep. You’re going to need it!

Friday touches almost every aspect of the jam community. Gregg Allman is the headliner, and Warren Haynes joins up with Railroad Earth; their new album, Ashes and Dust, was just released this week. Allman’s ABB cohort is in the mix: Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band. Joe Russo’s Almost Dead and the Australian Pink Floyd offer loving recreations of two of the most influential bands of our time.

There is plenty of funk on hand with Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Kung Fu, the Holloway & Kadlecik Project, and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. Great jamming will come from The Heavy Pets, Hard Working Americans, Papadosio, Twiddle, The McLovins, and Blues Traveler. More bluegrass courtesy of Cabinet, Beats Antique does their electro-acoustic thing, and Natalie Cressman and the Adam Ezra Group round out the day. You’re barely halfway through!

Saturday features three big events. Bob Weir joins his Dead bandmate Bill Kreutzmann and his band, Billy and the Kids, featuring Aron Magner (Disco Biscuits), Reed Mathis (Tea Leaf Green), and Tom Hamilton (American Babies). Willie Nelson & Family join in the festivities, and Butch Trucks & Very Special Friends will reprise their remarkable Wanee performance (with Jaimoe, Oteil Burbridge, Marc Quinones, Jack Pearson, Lamar Williams Jr., Bill Evans Bruce Katz & Pat Bergeson).

Then you have Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers, American Babies, Aqueous, and G. Love & Special Sauce. Americana/bluegrass comes to you via Cabinet, The Blind Owl Band, and Old Crow Medicine Show. Lotus and Dopapod both specialize in jamtronic rock. Singing “We want the funk?” The Ron Holloway Band and Oteil (Burbridge) and Roosevelt (Collier) have you covered. Or you might just want to put in the Dumpsta — with Dumpstaphunk.

If psychedelic rock is your thing, check out Flux Capacitor and The Works. Hip hop and reggae? The Alchemystics. And superb guitarslinger and songwriter Bobby Lee Rodgers returns for his fourth Peach Fest.

Congratulations! You’ve made it to Sunday! Hope you’re ready for… Santana! The Preservation Hall Jazz Band features… Bob Weir! And this particular iteration of Keller Williams is Keller Williams Grateful Gospel for your Sunday delight. The remainder of the day is an interesting mix. Turbo Suit is a live electronica band, while Tweed is a live psychedelic jamtronica group. And hometown boy MiZ and Friends put an exclamation point on the weekend.

In addition to the music, there is art of all sorts, and there is a waterpark!

Call your boss. Tell her you’ve got to go out of town Thursday and Friday. Well, don’t you? MusicFestNews will see you there!
