Whitestone: Experience The Music

WS_Home_Steinweiss

We all stream music from many different platforms on a daily basis. We tend to just hear the music for what it is, but what if it could become better than that? The future of how we experience music is coming. Whitestone, an independent company, will be the first platform for interactive music experiences. The project will be crowdfunded to make sure it stays independent from major labels and corporations.

Roey Tsemah, who is the founder of Whitestone, is a musician and designer who is working alongside Wouter Dirks, Martijn Gorree and Marko Kruijer, who are all contributing to the project. With our help we can change the way we experience music forever.

Whitestone will be used as a social media site that generates followers and likes, and you’ll be able to tip the artist directly.

“I mean, think about it, why is the album artwork still a square? By now I would expect it to be full screen, interactive, or even 3D,”  said Tsemah.

When you register as an artist, you will have all the tools handed to you to create your very own interactive artwork. The best part is that you can back your favorite artists. Instead of just ‘liking’ a track, now you can ‘back’ up the artist with 10 cents or as much as you like. The money goes directly to the artist;Tsemah describes it as an online tip jar. Not only can the site be used for music artists but for music bloggers and radio hosts as well.

“I always felt the artwork was an essential part of the album,” he added.

The first idea for an album cover was created back in 1938 by Alex Stienweiss. Instead of just having a cardboard slip that simply said the name of the album and artist, Alex wanted to do something that was abstract with color and make it as eye-catching as possible. Since then the idea of the album cover has basically stayed the same up until now. Whitestone is a project that started more than three years ago and plans soon to make history with their fullscreen interactive album covers.
