The Soul Rebels Brass Band invades Florida (again!)

The Village Voice describes The Soul Rebels Brass Band as “the missing link between Public Enemy and Louis Armstrong.” Consider that for a long moment. This octet from New Orleans is on a mission: to meld their love of the pop music they grew up on and the musical heritage into which they were born. There are no limits, no barriers. Soul, funk, hip-hop, rock and more emerge from their brilliant sound. The Soul Rebels have played with or shared the stage with the biggest names in music, and they always hold their own. They are sought after for collaborations far and wide.

They recently joined with Lotus for a 7” 45 RPM “Basin to Benin.” They are in demand, regarded by some as the best brass band on the scene today. Their 2014 performance at the Gasparilla Music Festival was a total knock-out.

The Soul Rebels are: Julian Gosin, trumpet; Marcus Hubbard, trumpet; Corey Peterson, trombone; Paul Robertson, trombone; Edward Lee, Jr., Sousaphone; Erion Williams, tenor saxophone; Lumar LeBlanc, snare drum; and Derrick Moss, bass drum. All members play percussion and sing as well.

Florida is fortunate to pry them loose from NOLA for two December shows, Thursday, December 3rd at Revolution Live in Ft. Lauderdale, and Friday, December 4th at Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa.

The Tampa show is a special benefit for WMNF 88.5. In addition to The Soul Rebels, the show will also feature Jacksonville’s brilliant Parker Urban Band. PUB have exploded on the Florida scene in the past several years, including performances at the Wanee Festival, Purple Hatter’s Ball and the recent Magnolia Festival. Combine a superb funk band with leader John Parkerurban’s incredible guitar and the heavenly voices of Juanita Parkerurban and Myrna Stallworth, and be prepared to be lifted up!
