This just in from Brotherly Love Productions:

It’s time to wake the bear! The producers of Bear Creek Music & Arts Festival have announced the inaugural Bear Creek Bayou Music Festival taking place September 30 & October 1 in New Orleans.

The two-day event will be steeped in the tradition of New Orleans funk music while providing an eclectic mix of artists, powerful big bands on par with past Bear Creek headliners, and genre-defining performers in world and roots music, live electronica, rock and everything in between.

Bear Creek Bayou will take place in the heart of New Orleans’ Warehouse District at Mardi Gras World. Situated on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River with views of the New Orleans skyline, the new venue is the perfect home for Bear Creek’s intimate funk-filled vibe.

That’s all we know so far, but for now that’s enough. If you’ve ever worn a Bear Creek shirt to a show or festival, you know how many people commented on how much they loved Bear Creek and how much they missed not going last fall.

This event will be different in that it is an urban fest rather than a camping outing in the woods, but… Bear Creek!

BLP’s message referred to “past Bear Creek headliners.” Let’s expand that to include performers. This partial list of BC performers explains why so many of us loved Bear Creek more than any other festival… and why we are glad to see its return, in whatever format.

That’s not a bad list. To paraphrase the late James Brown, “When [Bear Creek] is through, they’ll know where the funk come from!”
