Purple Hatter’s Ball Schedule: Beach, Campground, Amphitheater, Silent Disco!

Purple Hatter’s Ball is just two weeks away, and the daily schedule is here for your enjoyment! The music starts early with the pre-party on Thursday, at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, then two full days Friday and Saturday with music at the beach and at the campground and amphitheater stage (and late-night silent disco), and finally music on Friday until dusk. Be sure to check the official website for even more information.

In addition to the music, there is a full yoga and arts village activity schedule with workshops and playshops. The yoga workshops include movement medicine, PLAYoga, sensual bellydance, contact hooping improv, AcroYoga, earth mandala meditation and more. Luke Quaranta of Toubab Krewe will hold a West African drumming session, and Moe Angelo of Because the Lotus will hold several “Sacred G Breath” playshops. Be sure to check out all of the art installations and visual artists, too!

THURSDAY PRE-PARTY & POLISH AMBASSADOR ACTION DAY

“ActionDays.us, a platform launched by The Polish Ambassador that gathers musicians and fans to instigate community action, will host a meeting at the intersection of music and activism on the banks of the Suwannee River. Coming together on the day before the festival, on Thursday, June 16, they will bring the power of the people together with purpose. PHB attendees are invited to unite in action and have an amazing time, getting their hands in the dirt and then raising them up in the air, with their choice of awesome activities that build skills, relationships, and tangible regenerative projects that will make Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park better for all participants having been there. The projects will go as follows:

Project 1: Restore and prepare garden areas to plant a Food Forest that will nourish the land and people for generations to come.

Project 2: Build multi-purpose Waste Management Stations that reduce the amount of waste, energy, and resources consumed by inefficient disposal practices.

Project 3: Learn about Soil Testing (what is in the dirt, and is it good for you?), Mycoremediation (mushrooms that clean it up!), Permaculture (how plants, animals, and people interact together) and more.

As a thank you for their work, Action Day participants are invited to attend the Thursday Night Pre-Party for FREE featuring Sunsquabi, Savi Fernandez Birthday Band, Space Kadet and Gypsy Elise.”

This is a superb addition to the Purple Hatter’s Ball, itself a festival with a purpose, remembering Rachel Morningstar Hoffman and urging further national progress on protection of persons who are “asked” to act as confidential informants. You can check out our initial preview, festival additions, and more pre-party information.

phb full schedule

FRIDAY

Music starts at the beach Friday and Saturday at 12:30, with band sets and DJ sets alternating. The Stereo Type, Funk You and Squeedlepuss will funk and rock out, with Vlad the Inhaler, Charlie Hustle, Ricky Raw and Dazey spinning sets. All three of the bands have been playing knock-out shows. And you’ll see Vlad everywhere as one of the park’s best ambassadors.

Back at the campground, music alternates between the campground and amphitheater stages. Atlanta’s dynamite Voodoo Visionary get to lead off. Sophistafunk just threw down at Summer Camp, and the Corbitt-Clampitt Experience have turned heads everywhere in their short time as a band, including at Orange Blossom Jamboree.

North Carolina’s The Mantras have been on fire, including their ridiculous medley of “Fire On the Mountain > Burning Down the House.” Full-frontal in-your-face reggae comes to you courtesy of Trial by Stone (Tallahassee), and Earphunk brings the deep New Orleans funk to Florida.

phb papa

Roosevelt Collier and Friends get the next-to last set, and be sure to make plans for Roosevelt Collier’s Suwannee Splashdown July 29-31. Finally, get ready to jam with festival favorites Papadosio. Done? Heck, no!

It’s Silent Disco time back at the beach! Two channels for three hour-long time slots: Cuttlefish vs. Ancient Deep, Elliott Mess vs. Big Bucks Crew, and Combustible vs. Cat Party.

NOW you can sleep. Or not.

SATURDAY

DJs Jeff Randall, Triclops I, Sir Charles and Zachy Nix will be mixing between sets by the incredible S.P.O.R.E., sharing this set with Zahira (from San Francisco), the first of two appearances by DubConscious, and Leisure Chief, who just released their superb album King of Nothing earlier in the spring.

The Hip Abduction

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the Heather Gillis Band is up first. Do not miss her; the band had a stunning set at OBJ. Pensacola’s Post Pluto will rock your socks off (even if you’re barefoot). Blues shouter Kaleigh Baker and The Groove Orient provide a powerful set, followed by Herd of Watts, the Jacksonville band who blows it out every time at the park.

The Hip Abduction’s infectious blend of tropical indie Afropop will get you dancing, and you need to get their new album, Gold Under the Glow. MZG’s electronic boogie music will be augmented by Allen Aucoin’s drums (The Disco Biscuits).

Then it’s time for The Polish Ambassador, in the middle of a big festival tour, to light it up with his mix of… everything! The Malah follow with their groove-infested jamtronic goodness, and The Floozies have the honors, shutting down the amphitheater; they also are in the midst of a huge festival tour.

Ah, ah, AH! Not so fast! MORE Silent Disco! Paten Locke vs. Leginge, Skythye vs. Taste Tester, and Damballa vs. Vlad the Inhaler.

NOW sleep. Briefly.

SUNDAY

Because there is great music on the amphitheater and campground stages, starting with Flat Land, the Gainesville quintet who had a fabulous showing at Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival. Next up are Scott Campbell and Avis Cherry. No idea what they have up their sleeves this year, but nobody was expecting their brilliant Blind Faith album set last year. Bedside had a great set and AURA Music & Arts Festival and are returning to SoSMP with debut EP One Night With You in tow.

phb dub

DubConscious is back for round two. They have played every Purple Hatter’s Ball and were Rachel’s favorites. Catfish Alliance entertains next, and Melvin Seals and JGB have the privilege of closing down this year’s PHB.

MusicFestNews will see you in two weeks! We can’t wait!
