Sunday Funday at Suwannee Hulaween

Suwannee Hulaween closed with a big bang on Sunday Funday, with 20 bands performing. Our full review will post later this week, but here is Sunday in outline form, sort of.

The Savi Fernandez Band

Passafire opened the Amphitheater with rockin’ reggae and prog, while Aaron Lebos Reality were shredding funky fusion. El Dub then had his looper set at Spirit Lake.

Of all the bands on the lineup, the one band I never want to miss is the Travelin’ McCourys. Seriously. They were brilliant once again.

I split the next hour: a great throw-down from The Motet, then back to a tremendous set from Savi Fernandez Band with Kaleigh Baker, Roosevelt Collier and Isaac Corbitt guesting. Just never made it back to The Patch on Sunday.

Spiritual Rez got their crowd dancing while String Cheese Incident played set number six with some great jams. The Juanjamon Band blew up the campground with ridiculous funk, then time for the last Cheese of Hula, a wonderful closing set with “Freedom Jazz Dance!”

I split the next hour between the Claypool Lennon Delirium — very diverse set including a cover of “The Court of the Crimson King” — and Bells and Robes with great new dance tracks.

Finally (phew!) Big Gigantic featuring the Motet had the last dance word on the Meadow stage, and Twiddle sounded superb on the Spirit Lake Stage.

Happy Hula, everyone!

P.S. I split about 9:15, with Big Gigantic still on stage. got in the car, turned on the radio, and… big Gigantic, LIVE! on SiriusXM 29 JamOn. And then the entire Motet set, followed by Saturday night’s STS9 explosion! SCORE!
