Asheville’s Christmas Jam – Heating Up And Helping Out

Since it began 27 years ago, The Christmas Jam in Asheville has been all about having a good time with old friends and family while helping out others in need.

For almost two decades now Warren Haynes has been a driving force behind curating phenomenal lineups that result in sold-out shows every year. This year is no exception, with tickets selling out almost as soon as they went on sale.

Christmas Jam proceeds benefit Asheville area Habitat For Humanity, and, over the years, this has helped 36 families in need of housing and also created Habitat For Humanity’s Hudson Hills Subdivision, named in honor of Warren’s and Stefani’s son, Hudson.

Happening on December 10th, the lineup for this year rivals many of the best festivals in the country starting with, of course, Haynes’ own Gov’t Mule. Still touring hard after their August release The Tel-Star Sessions, Mule has been a powerhouse in the jam rock scene since 1994.

Haynes will also be leading a special reprise of The Last Waltz Band, a special tribute to The Band put together during Jazz Fest this year in honor of the 40th Anniversary of the famous 1976 concert. This amazing all-star group for Christmas Jam consists of Haynes, Don Was, Jamey Johnson, John Medeski, Terence Higgins and more.

As if having Gov’t Mule wasn’t enough of a headlining act, Bob Weir will also be playing. Weir has also been touring, having just released Blue Mountain at the end of September.

Michael McDonald is also on the lineup playing both with The Last Waltz Band as well as leading his own all-star group.

Jamey Johnson and Allison Krauss will have their own set as well.

Special guests listed on the lineup also include a wishlist for any festival fanatic: Branford Marsalis, George Porter Jr, Steve Kimock, Marcus King, Kevn Kinney, Bob Margolin and Audley Freed.

Considering that nearly everyone on this list is known for sitting with with almost everyone else, there are sure to be plenty of chances for superjams to arise.

It may be winter in Asheville in December, but this is sure to be one hot, hot show.
