New Single ‘The Mighty Boss’ by The Oafs: We Can Relate
The Oafs have a new single and a video to match.
The Oafs, you say. Who are they? Good question.
We first ran a story about them when their very first single, “Come Back Home,” was released from their initial EP titled Mr. J. That was in July of 2015. Then, the band issued their first full-length album, My Scars and Stories, which we wrote about in April.
Eva Gomes handles the lead vocals and plays electric guitar and percussion. João Dias plays acoustic and electric guitars and adds harmony vocals. Afonso Carvalhido also sings harmony in addition to his fine work on clarinet and percussion, and bassist Raul Carvalho sings, too. In addition to the quartet, guest Flora Castro plays the violin and the viola on four tracks.
The new single is “The Mighty Boss,” and I suspect that everyone can relate, even more so in the current political climate. When we reviewed the album, we said:
More of the scars turn up on the remaining four tunes, and yet there is still a positive vibe peaking through. The first of these, “The Mighty Boss,” has a bouncy thump throughout, helping to punctuate the choruses:

Stop!The first lyric says it all: “Do you even hear what’s coming out of your mouth?” There is some great violin on the tune courtesy of Castro, and Carvalhido’s clarinet is deluxe again. As is, on every song, Gomes on vocals. This album is infectious.
