The Other Brothers Release Their “Jones EP” to Sold-Out Crowd in NYC

Written by Kelly Malave

Saturday, September 30th, marked the official album release party of Jones, The Other Brothers‘ first EP. Spirits were high as American Beauty filled up for this sold-out show.  Fans were eager to get the party started and were in store for some surprises.

Beginning in New Paltz in 2012, The Other Brothers have played their fair share of hometown throw-downs while picking up some festival slots along the way. Consistently playing for friends and classmates alike, The O Bros made a name for themselves in their small college town of New Paltz rather quickly. Five years and two new members later, they’ve produced their debut EP filled with five powerfully soulful and funky tunes. Making up the band are lead vocalist Chris Owens, guitarist John Morrison, bassist Jordan Mendelson, drummer Brandon Bera, keyboardist Gabriel Marquez, and percussionist Jared Nelson.

Kicking off the release party with “Fim De Festa,” a track written and sung in Portuguese, it was the perfect tune to get the crowd quiet and attentive. A beautiful melody adorned with Chris Owens’ vocals joined only by guitarist John Morrison on stage was only the beginning of what would be a great set to come.

The rest of the band quickly entered the stage, giving the crowd their thanks and appreciation for the support. Starting off the night with some slower, smoother jams quickly segued into funking the crowd up with “Can I Get It,” the first song of the night from the EP. This party anthem offers some seriously funky bass hooks along with verses sure to get stuck in your head. “Your Machine,” another one from Jones, followed with its sexy guitar licks and bass lines, truly showing off the talent of the entire band. The crowd would “woo” in unison to the rhythm as the brothers grooved on.  “A2W,” better known as “Addicted To Weed,” was a real crowd-pleaser with lyrics we can all relate to. The Other Brothers recently came out with a music video that can be viewed below

Just when we thought the show was over, rapper Wavy Cunningham jumped on stage to join the brothers for “Hit You Up,” another track featured on the new EP. Wavy’s rhymes went over the R&B backdrop ever so smoothly as the crowd swayed back and forth. When you thought it couldn’t get any better, The Other Brothers announced the last song would be filmed for a music video for “Get The Party Started,” and Owens crowdsurfed on a huge inflatable peacock – you heard correctly, an oversized colorful peacock. The crowd roared with laughter and cheered as their fingers carried him to the back of the room all whilst not missing a note, truly putting the cherry on top of this perfect family affair.
