You never have to look far to find something unique and exciting occurring in Brooklyn. Ambient Church is the latest happening which has peaked our interest, and it should be on your radar as well. Described as a “nomadic experiential concert series,” Ambient Church brings live music and visual performance to churches in multiple Brooklyn neighborhoods.
The series will allow audience members to see and hear each performance in an unusual location, creating an immersive atmosphere that is about the experience as much as it is about the music. Curator Brian Sweeney is no stranger to mixing spirituality and live performance. He is the founder of the former DIY space Body Actualized Center; a trippy yoga studio that would become host to musical performances and the occasional rave after dark.
Performers range from well-known favorites of the ambient genre to emerging artists making their way into the scene. The series kicked off October 6 with Windy & Carl, a psychedelic duo out of Dearborn MI who have been performing trippy dream pop and guitar drone pieces since 1993. California composer Chuck Johnson was also on the bill for the special performance, which took place at First Unitarian Universalist Society of Brooklyn Heights.
Performances will continue at varying church locations through December. See the full schedule below and click here for tickets.
