Mike Dillon is one of the most exciting musicians I’ve ever seen. He can play some of the most outrageous stuff you’ve ever heard, then tour with Rickie Lee Jones, then come back and play traps in a straight-ahead gig. He alleges to play PUNK JAZZ FREAK FUNK. Well, that’s a start, at least.
He is… THE VIBRAPHONE DESTROYER!
He can belt punk lyrics, stage-dive with the best of them, hurdle a vibraphone in a single bound, and electrify an audience. Dillon makes Austin his home but has played everywhere and everything, from his days with Billy Goat, Critters Buggin’, the Dead Kenny Gs, Garage A Trois and much more.
And he surrounds himself with the best. Here is his analysis of the current band from his Facebook page:
Nathan Lambertson is a top call upright jazz bassist with a punk rock heart of gold. Cliff Hines has been playing with Mike since 2012 and is the backbone of this group providing amazing counterpoint and power on the guitar. In the drum department, Paul Thibodeaux and Claude Coleman Jr. take turns battling providing the pocket and percussive artillery.
