Hangout Fest Recap

Hangout Music Festival just passed this last weekend, and it was an absolute blast. The festival, located in Gulf Shores, Alabama, is actually on a part of the beach. This gives it an interesting vibe, instead of that traditional festival feel, Hangout’s vibe feels just like your at one giant beach party with a bunch of your friends.

Galantis

Hangout fest had a wide variety of artists playing, from headliners Kendrick Lamar and The Chainsmokers to up-and-comers like Greta von Fleet and Wheethan. Even with the concern of stormy weather being close by, the festival didn’t blink and was able to elude the storms for the most part. Some sets on Thursday were cancelled due to inclement weather, but that was quickly made up for throughout the weekend, as it was sunny and hot the remainder of the festival.

Portugal. the Man, the rock band from Oregon, opened day one on a high note with an amazing performance that had the crowd absolutely stoked to be out in the heat. I love seeing these guys play live, from their hilarious graphics of beevis and butthead playing in the background to the way they just all seem to flow with one another its always awesome being able to see these guys kill it.

Logic

Bringing the heat day two was hip hop artist Logic playing on the main stage. Logic’s unique style in rapping combined with the energy he brought formulated into an extremely well versed set that had everybody enjoying it. Personally, Logic has a huge influence on my perspective of hip hop and the music industry so having the opportunity to see him perform again was amazing.

The Chainsmokers

The Chainsmokers were the headliner for night two, and their set was one of the biggest highlights of the festival. The Chainsmokers have grown quite a bit in notoriety over the past couple years for being able to blend the lines between genres. Their music crosses between dance, pop, and indie, which in turn made it so their audience was more than just the younger festival-goers dancing to their set.

Odesza

Day three ended with a bang; with artists like Odesza, Kendrick Lamar and Greta van Fleet playing, it was a perfect ending to a very successful weekend. Kendrick’s performance had quite the surprise twist when he invited a young lady onto the stage who completely butchered it,  so much so that Kendrick had to stop his performance and speak with her on stage about what was going on. It ended up turning into a huge spectacle with the audience members booing and ushering the young lady off stage.
