BBC celebrates the launch of BBC Music with a fantastic cover of “God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys featuring a plethora of great musicians including an 80-piece-orchestra. The corporation describes BBC Music as “an ambitious wave of new programmes, innovative partnerships and ground-breaking music initiatives that amount to the BBC’s strongest commitment to music in 30 years.” In 1997, BBC did something similar with a star-studded cover of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day”. The all-star cover features Brian Wilson, Dave Grohl, Lorde, Chris Martin, Sam Smith, Stevie Wonder, Pharrell Williams, Florence Welch, Sir Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Queen’s Brian May, One Direction, Emeli Sandé, Jake Bugg, Paloma Faith, Chrissie Hynde, Alison Balsom, Martin James Bartlett, Danielle de Niese, Nicola Bendetti, Eliza Carthy, Baaba Maal, Jamie Cullum, Jaz Dhami, BBC’s own Zane Lowe, Lauren Laverne, Katie Derham, Gareth Malone, and Jools Holland.
BBC Music plans to eventually release it as a charity single to benefit BBC’s Children In Need Program
