Orange Blossom Jamboree Silent Disco: Bells & Robes and Future Vintage
So, you’ve been looking carefully at the daily schedules for Orange Blossom Jamboree, now just seven days away (May 19-22) at the Sertoma Ranch in Brooksville. (You can read our full preview here. The contest is over.)
But you’re thinking, what am I going to do after midnight? Because Come Back Alice’s Southern gypsy funk shuts down the Dunedin Brewery Big Cypress Stage at 12. Suénalo does the same on Saturday with their “AfroLatinBabymakin’DescargaFunk™.” I’m not done yet, you say.
No, you are not. It’s time to grab a beverage of choice (or something, or someone) and head back to the Sunshine Stage (OK, Moonshine, by this time, appropriately) for Silent Disco! Damn right. Two bands will keep you dancing until the very wee hours. Headphone magic will start about 12:30.
On Friday night, Gainesville’s Bells & Robes have the honors. They recently toured with Bedside to celebrate the release of their new EP How Could We Have Known. Bells & Robes are Luke Sipka and Dean Spaniol. These two have performed as B&R for more than three years now, and they have played countless dates and numerous festivals both big and intimate, including Suwannee Hulaween, AURA Music & Arts Festival, Purple Hatter’s Ball, and the Imagine Festival.
The Gainesville duo describe themselves as “electronic, dreamwave” artists. Their music ranges from wonderfully hypnotic trance to full-on jams. They create their own “electro-soundscapes” for use as they play. Sipka plays live keyboards and synths while Spaniol plays drums and triggers samples. Sipka and Spaniel always have your enjoyment as their target.
So late Friday night will be awesome. How does Saturday shape up?
This will be Future Vintage’s opportunity to keep you dancing until… until… there’s no telling. This St. Petersburg trio is perfectly named. Their mix of ‘70s funk and fusion and modern electronic dance music produces one outrageous dance party. Keyboard wizard Matt Giancola and Trevor McDannel on bass and bass synth have been the core of the band since its inception, and Eric Layana was the perfect addition to the trio when the drum chair was vacated.
Future Vintage has also played numerous festivals and shows, including the Purple Hatter’s Ball. The band released their first full-length album, Doin It Right, in December.
