Teddy Midnight & Twiddle Brought the Jams to NYC

Fans lined up around the block, eager to get in the sold-out Twiddle & Teddy Midnight show at Irving Plaza this past Saturday night. The date has been a highly anticipated stop on the Plumperdump Winter Tour, being the first time Twiddle has had the headlining spot at an Irving Plaza date. Both Teddy & Twiddle pulled out all the stops for this very exciting night.

Teddy Midnight got it going with the super-funky “Tree-O-Tree,” which drew the crowd in right away. As the band played through their killer originals and the cover of “Lady,” the floor got packed, and nearly everyone was dancing to the infectious tunes that they were throwing down. Teddy Midnight got the night started off in the perfect way, and I’m happy to say they’re finally getting the attention that they deserve. By the time they left the stage, the venue was screaming about both their love for the band and their excitement for Twiddle.

By the time Twiddle took the stage, the entire venue was packed like a can of sardines, a definite sign that the band has officially outgrown the venue. They opened the first set with “Amydst The Myst” featuring the Frendly Horns, who should be a permanent fixture, in my opinion. The rest of the first set was packed with inducing jams such as “Beehop,” “When It Rains, It Pours” and “Hattibagen McRat,” which left the electrified crowd begging for more. Then came time for set-break, which is honestly a favorite part of Twiddle shows for me; the community that this band has created leaves me in awe every time. The Twiddle family is such a large group of relentlessly positive, loving and welcoming fans who want nothing more than to welcome you in give you a big hug and chat about their common love for the band, which can’t be said about every band’s fan bases.

The second set started off strong with “Syncopated Healing” but really got going when The Frendly Horns returned later along with 12-year-old IRL Jamflowman “Taz” for “Lost In The Cold” off the recently released Plump Chapter One studio album. Taz (Brandon Niederauer) has sat in with some of the best current bands, has been featured on The Ellen Show and is currently starring in Broadway’s School Of Rock. The band then went through “Wasabi Eruption” into “The Box” before closing the set with ‘”Tiberius.”  The crowd wasn’t finished with them though, and they returned for a special encore of a new tune, “Collective Pulse,” and announced that they’d be returning to NYC this May for a headlining set at The Capitol Theatre. Overall, this was an amazing night that proves both Twiddle and Teddy Midnight are rising through the ranks of the jam scene, and we’re so excited to see what they both have in store for us in the future.
