Save the Date for Suwannee Spring Reunion Festival in Live Oak!
Finally! It was starting to get tense, and questions kept getting asked. Would there be a spring festival at our beloved Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park (SOSMP) in Live Oak, Florida? Have you heard anything? Nope, you? Well, folks, we are pleased to share the news that YES there is going to be a festival. The SOSMP park has announced that the inaugural Suwannee Spring Reunion will be held March 23 to 25; they will release the initial lineup shortly.
For nearly two decades, the third weekend in March at the SOSMP was home to the Suwannee Springfest, where thousands of dedicated musical lovers gathered for a weekend of bluegrass and Americana music; then the economy tanked. The founders of Springfest and Magnolia Festival, Beth and Randy Judy, had to make the difficult decision of letting go of their “babies.” We all had high hopes that the new festival owners would carry on the tradition at the SOSMP. We looked forward to those semi-annual musical reunions on the banks of the Suwannee River. We needed them. Unfortunately, it was a short run for the new owners, and Suwannee Springfest seemed to just vanish.
So here we were feeling sad, trying to figure out how to get the festival family together while time kept creeping forward with no word on a new festival. Then we got the news that we had been (not so patiently) waiting for. The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park posted the following statement on Facebook:
“We are excited to announce a new spring event at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park: Suwannee Spring Reunion, March 23-25, 2017. Make your plans and we’ll have more information soon.”
We also hear that Suwannee Springfest and Magnolia Festival co-founder Beth Judy will be involved, but no other news yet. We expect to have information on the lineup shortly and will share as soon as we get confirmation. Our recommendation is to go ahead and ask for those days off work, reserve a campsite, golf cart, whatever you need, and plan on seeing us at Suwannee Spring Reunion!
