Guavatron + FUGU + Fusik + JUke + Scone Cash Players = Epic OMG!

If you dig funk, blues, jamtronica, and rock, then Ft. Lauderdale is your Saturday destination as Revolution Live Presents Memorial Day Weekend Appreciation Concert. Five of South Florida’s greatest musical exponents will unite for a massive show. Four of these bands just turned in spectacular performances at last weekend’s Orange Blossom Jamboree, the annual celebration of great music from the Sunshine State.

Guavatron, the jamtronic quartet from West Palm Beach, was simply brilliant at OBJ. Their mix of rock, fusion, funk, and electronica is jaw-dropping. Guavatron are: Adonis Guava (guitar, vocals), Roddy Hansen (keyboards), Conor Crookham (bass), and Casey Luden (drums). And Guavatron was on the Suwannee Hulaween lineup just released yesterday!

We were thrilled to catch FUGU with a killer set of prog-dance improv. They started jazzy, played a riotous tune called “That’s When Things Got Weird,” went totally jamtronic, and crushed “Working Man.” FUGU are: Ali Nassar (drums), Daryl Wolff (keyboards, and, if you’re lucky: keytar!), Taylor Godsey (guitar), and Scott Goorland (bass). Wolff was the genius behind the AURA Music and Arts Festival (of blessed memory) and is intimately involved with music selection at Suwannee Hulaween.

Fusik caught our attention at the Dunedin Brewery Spring Beer Jam in March, and their OBJ set was likewise lit up with funk, fusion, soul, and jazz. Fusik are: Antonio “Sanchez” Rivera (guitar, vocals), Charles Gardner (keyboards, vocals), Daniel “Felix” Garcia (drums), Daniel “Quinto” Naval (percussion, vocals),  Jason Spencer (bass, vocals), and Robert Smiley (tenor saxophone, flute, vocals). They will also be at Suwannee Hulaween.

JUke followed their great Wanee Music Festival set with a stunner last weekend, truly jaw-dropping. Each member of the band had the opportunity to shine. “Country Stroll” was a blast, the closing “Burn in Hell” was off the charts, and the collaboration with Melody Trucks on “Little by Little” was beyond imagination. Miami’s JUke are: Eric Garcia (vocals, harmonica), Sonny East (guitar, vocals), Korian Hannah (drums, vocals), and Marcel Salas (bass guitar).

Rounding out this great bill are the Scone Cash Players. This is organ funk, led by Adam Scone (Hammond B3 organ). The band includes Jason Joshua (guitar), Eddie Garcia (drums), Jose “El Gavilan” Pena (drums),  Ian Hendrickson-Smith (saxophone), and at least eight more players listed on the band’s Facebook page.
