Knox Hamilton – The Sound, Presence & Energy of Future Rock Stars

Knox Hamilton call themselves a “humble indie dance rock band,” but these guys from Little Rock, Arkansas, don’t need to be humble. Their sound is familiar yet all their own; think Phoenix and Moon Taxi meet The 1975 and Coldplay. I know it sounds different, but that’s because this band is. They’re something special, something you don’t see too often, and when you do it’s recognizable in every way. I first heard Knox Hamilton on the smallest stage at Bonnaroo back in 2015 and have been a fan ever since.

Boots Copeland, Cobo Copeland and Drew Buffington have been playing together since the band formed. Their first full-length albumThe Heights was a welcome breath of fresh air to the indie-rock scene. Their newest EP Beach Boy takes what worked on their first album, adding some jazzy undertones and a dash of electronic music. It works well in the studio but really comes alive on the stage.

They kicked off their recent tour July 13th in Nashville, TN. Last night (July 25th) they took the stage at Ace of Clubs in Columbus, OH. They captured the audience’s attention and spirits from the second they took the stage and never let go. They played some new favorites like “Mission Control” and “Beach Boy” and closed with their breakout song “Work it Out.” The crowd was intimate, but the energy filling that room was incendiary.

The band stayed long after their set to sign autographs, take photos and shoot the shit with their fans. I guess this is what they mean by a “humble indie dance rock band.” I’m excited to see where their career goes over the next few years. They still have 13 more stops left on their Beach Boy tour starting with Subterranean in Chicago tonight; do yourself a favor and check them out.
