Collier, Garulli, Lapham & Garrie: Fasten Your Seatbelts, Dunedin!

Roosevelt Collier, one of the acknowledged masters of the pedal steel guitar and a product of the amazing Lee Boys, has a deep, deep resume. He has played with The Allman Brothers Band, Widespread Panic, Victor Wooten, The Travelin’ McCourys, and hundreds more bands and musicians. He is one of the most-requested guests at festivals. He plays sacred steel, funk, R&B, Hendrix, bluegrass, jazz, and even punk! He just completed his first European tour, first with his band and then with Michael League’s Bokanté. His first solo album, Exit 16, was released this spring.

This Saturday (August 18th) marks a very special one-off show at Dunedin Brewery featuring The Dr., joined by an incredible group of musicians. Joining him will be Mike Garulli on guitar, Matt Lapham on bass, and Michael ‘Thunderfoot’ Garrie on drums.

Garulli is one of the two guitarists for The Heavy Pets from South Florida. Only this morning, Miami New Times gave a shout-out to “four bands keeping the South Florida jam scene alive.” On that list, along with Snarky Puppy and Unlimited Devotion, are the Roosevelt Collier Band and The Heavy Pets! Garulli is a superb players, able to shred and equally able to play subtle, beautiful music. He is a fine vocalist as well. In addition to his Heavy Pets duties, he also pairs with Pets guitarist Jeff Lloyd in the acoustic duo Fat Mannequin.

Lapham is a member of Shak Nasti, one of the greatest and most underrated bands from Florida. Lapham also played with Bobby Lee Rodgers and works regularly with Collier. He also plays in Con Leche and was a member of the Absinthe Trio. And, every time I have the opportunity to do so, I remind you that he is my favorite bass player on the planet. Period.

Garrie has been nicknamed ‘Thunderfoot’ for good reason. The drummer was a member of seminal Florida jam band CopE. Currently, he sits in the drum chair of The Juanjamon Band, one of the funkiest funk bands ever. He manages and plays in Antelope: A Tribute to the Band Phish. And he has often been part of superjams, including several with guitarist Joe Marcinek.
