Riot Fest: Out with the Old and In with the Jewels

Rumors have been swirling Reddit and Twitter regarding whether or not Riot Fest was going to get cancelled. Rumors included that organizers had not obtained the permits needed to stay at Douglas Park or that bands they had planned to book as headliners were having issues with their travel visas.

Today, just nine days before the festival kicks off, they have finally broken their silence and announced the addition of wave two acts with big names Weezer, Run the Jewels and Taking Back Sunday.

“We cannot wait to see you guys next week.

Yesterday afternoon, while we preparing to announce a long-awaited special headliner – alongside single-day lineups and tickets – we received a call from Blink-182’s camp letting us know that due to health-related issues with Travis, they unfortunately and sorrowfully had to cancel their entire September tour. Moreover, Riot and Blink-182 want all of you to know that they are rescheduled as one our headliners next year for Riot Fest’s 15th anniversary. All of us here at Riot Fest wish Travis the best of health and nothing short of a speedy recovery.

As soon as we found out the news, we feverishly started to call upon some of our friends to fill the spot left by Blink-182. Within a matter of hours, Weezer, Run the Jewels and Talking Back Sunday stepped up, and will now be performing at Riot Fest 2018.

We’ll start rolling out the next round of announcements tomorrow at 10:00 a.m CDT.

We thank you for your continued support, passion, and loyalty. We look forward to another incredible year… See you next week!

Your Chum,
Riot Mike”

The unfortunate news is that Blink-182 has been forced to cancel its headlining performance. The band took to Twitter to explain that this circumstance is due to continued and unforeseen issues with drummer, Travis Barkers’ health. They also used this time to announced they will officially return as headliners for Riot Fest in 2019.
