Artists Spotlight – Alliey XO
I stumbled across this track after a friend of a friend liked it on Facebook. Prior to writing this article, I didn’t know much about this artist, beyond the fact that her name is Alliey XO and that her remix of “Island” by Geomi has been playing on repeat in my car for the past few days. I did a little bit of digging and found out that this is the first and only song she has officially released. She has a few other mixes up on her website, but beyond that it seems as if this Los Angeles-based DJ is new to the scene.
A Los Angeles DJ Making Her Name Known
For an upcoming electronic artist, she is absolutely killing it with this track. Reminiscent of early Odesza with splashes of Daft Punk, this is the perfect song to listen to at full volume with the windows down. It pulls its power from stadium-shaking subtlety, extravagant gestures, and a beautiful yet thunderous softness. It makes you want to lie back at a pool while thinking of ways to conquer the world. It is vitality; it is repose; it is a dynamic celebration of nightlife and life itself.
I wish that I lived a bit closer to LA so that I could check out her upcoming set at Catch One on January 24th, but I am stuck in the freezing cold that is Columbus, Ohio. For now, I will play this song on repeat to keep my body moving and my soul warm. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us in the future and look forward to hearing any new tracks she might release.
