George Porter, Jr.: Runnin’ Pardners, Porter Trio and More

There are few musicians in the American songbook as storied as George Porter, Jr., bass player extraordinaire for The Meters, The Funky Meters, Porter Batiste Stoltz, The Porter Trio, and George Porter, Jr., and Runnin’ Pardners. Porter has been invited to play or sit in with hundreds of bands across the musical spectrum.

His warm and embracing smile and personality are a match for his superb musical skills. He is a titan in ever sense of the word.

Porter has a number of shows on his schedule with The Porter Trio, including a regular Monday night stand at The Maple Leaf Bar in NOLA. He will also be on the road with Runnin’ Pardners. He will appear with Foundation of Funk at the Gretna Heritage Festival with fellow Meter Zigaboo Modeliste, and Porter will also play a special benefit show with Warren Haynes, Joe Russo, John Medeski, and Karl Denson in support of DEBRA of America. (DEBRA is the name of an international medical research charity dedicated to the curing of EB, epidermolysis bullosa, “The Worst Disease You’ve Never Heard Of.”)

In January, Porter sails with Jam Cruise 18 and then joins Widespread Panic for Panic en la Playa. We are simply in awe of Porter’s spirit, music, and indefatigable energy!
