Cool Cool Cool Debut First Official Single: “Never Noticed”

By this point, most of you are familiar with the seven musicians who comprise the outstanding funk and R&B band Cool Cool Cool. You knew them previously as members of Turkuaz. At that time, they were touring in support of Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew on their Remain in Light tour, closing out that run on Halloween at Suwannee Hulaween 2021. Remain in Light has been touring regularly since then.

Cool Cool Cool are: Craig Brodhead, guitar, synths; Chris Brouwers, trumpet, keyboards; Michelangelo Carubba, drums; Shira Elias, vocals; Sammi Garett, vocals; Greg Sanderson, tenor saxophone; and Josh Schwartz, baritone saxophone, vocals. Rodrigo “Digo” Zambrano (Electric Kif) has been playing bass with them for about a year.

As Cool Cool Cool and with the Remain in Light project, they have played hundreds of concerts and dozens of festivals. Elias and Garett are always in demand as guest vocalists and have solo tracks/albums out of their own, and Brouwers, Sanderson, and Schwartz have toured even more, known as The Horn Section. Carubba and Brodhead also tour with the Ryan Montbleau Band. And Schwartz has released two singles under the name Josch.

And yet, there have been no official recordings from the band… UNTIL NOW!

Their very first official record is “Never Noticed,” which is out now on Color Red Records, Eddie Roberts’ label out of Denver; it was recorded at Color Red Studios. If you’ve had the pleasure of hearing and seeing Cool Cool Cool, then you know the incredible power this group creates.

“‘Never Noticed’ is an amalgamation of all of us and this new era we’re creating together. We wanted to put forth a celebratory yet introspective experience, because that’s where we’re at, individually and as a unit. This song is a beautiful and honest snapshot of the genesis of Cool Cool Cool, and we can’t wait to hear the revelations it brings you, as it has done for us.”

“Never Noticed” is a midtempo tune that allows every member of the band to shine. It begins with trippy percussion, keyboards, and guitar before the ladies’ gorgeous voices slide in, featuring accents from The Horn Section. Schwartz sings on the bridge, joining the ladies, before Elias urges, “What you think, horns.” And we find out exactly what they think!

Carubba keeps tight rein on the pace, while Brodhead plays some slinky synths in addition to his guitar duties. Brouwers also pulls double duty on keyboards along with his trumpet. They key phrase in the lyrics is: “Never Noticed someone like you.”

Impossible to argue with the official press release:

“Never Noticed” is the much-anticipated single from the funk/house group Cool Cool Cool. The track is loaded with entrancing vocals, hard-hitting horn lines, and an ever-driving groove, marrying vintage tones with modern production sensibilities. At its core, “Never Noticed” is the first collaboration from a collective of people who, while having performed together for years, perhaps didn’t quite understand what they had together.

“The realization of our universal connectedness is at the heart of this song, which we hope the listener can associate within their own lives.We want people to contemplate and discover how our stories are told and how they interconnect. And of course, we want them to celebrate.”

“Never Noticed” is just a taste of what’s to come from this exciting group.

A dozen years into this experiment, we are delighted to see that the members of Cool Cool Cool more fully understand what they bring to the music scene in terms of mind, heart, soul, warmth, and “universal connectedness.” This band is ready to explode with musical magic.

At festivals, my friend Pat Williams always used to say: “Friends don’t let friends miss Turkuaz.” His new bumper stickers need to be a little bit longer now:
