It would be impossible to overstate the importance of Cream’s rise to the top of the scene in the late 1960s. Those coming of age during that period had many favorites, music so fresh and new and unexpectedly mind-blowing, and Cream were among the very best. Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, and Eric Clapton bowled us over with Fresh Cream (1966) and Disraeli Gears (1967), but for many of us it was the live half of 1968 masterpiece Wheels of Fire that was so killer. They would go on to record their finale, Goodbye, later that year, and several fine albums of live material also appeared. They returned in 2005 to reprise their work with Royal Albert Hall London May 2-3-5-6.
Enter Kofi Baker, Malcolm Bruce, and Rob Johnson. Kofi is Ginger’s son… and a drummer. Malcolm is the son of Jack… and a bass player and vocalist. Add to those two sons of Cream members Rob Johnson, a fine guitarist. All have truly solid resumes; read more on their website (link below).

A project emerged from Australia and New Zealand beginning in 2017 titled The Music of Cream 50th Anniversary. Kofi Baker was involved with project through 2022. Malcolm Bruce took part through 2019. He also was involved with another collaboration called Heavenly Cream.
Kofi, Malcolm, and Rob came together to form Sons of Cream, with their first tour in 2024. They have done extensive tours in the U.K., Europe, and the U.S. Their current tour is called The Half and Half in honor of the band’s new album, which will feature six original band compositions and Cream classics as well. The tour will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Cream and material from the band’s debut recording.

Some of their concerts have been recorded. You can catch several on YouTube. Just close your eyes and let the music take you where it wants to go.
