Joni Bottari’s Final Performance with Brown Eyed Women

Joni Bottari, filling the Jerry Garcia role, played her final show with Brown Eyed Women December 7 at Crazy Uncle Mike’s in Boca Raton, the exact location of the band’s very first show June 26, 2019.

Brown Eyed Women are: Joni Bottari, lead guitar; Jen Rund, bass; Caroline Killoh, keyboards, vocals; Denise Parent, drums, lead vocals; Liv Zutphen, guitar; and Jill Paone Simmons, lead vocals. Now exit Bottari.

Brown Eyed Women is an ensemble of powerful female players from popular bands around the country, celebrating the music of the Grateful Dead with a unique spin. Members hail from Massachusetts, New Jersey, Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania. Their high-caliber musicianship and shared love of the Dead drew them together. This  band is decidedly different in a field brimming with tribute acts. BEW brings authentic jams and a soulful new approach to the familiar Grateful Dead catalog.

There was an overwhelming sense of love and appreciation woven throughout this farewell show. Playing the same exact venue from which they started was oh, so bittersweet. There was a joyous, celebratory feel surrounding the music that could not be denied.

BEW are a “band beyond description,” and one could sense how much Joni will be missed with the crowd chanting her name in deep admiration!
