Inaugural Gainesville Folk Festival Takes Off

Packed with a weekend full of performances, instrument workshops, jam sessions and dancing instruction, the first version of the Gainesville Folk Festival was held at the Heartwood Soundstage this past weekend. It was a great family event and the weather cooperated.

Performers included some of the finest folk/Americana performers in the state. There were old-time, Celtic and Irish music jams, and international, line, contra, and English county dancing instruction. A harmony singing workshop, a children’s fiddle show and a protest song singalong rounded out the weekend. Even the Weinermobile made an appearance.
