The Fritz, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and Big Something all set to wreak havoc on The Great Outdoors Jam

Chief Meters-ologist Kenny Blair of Accujammer Radar is predicting that three — count ‘em, three — hurricanes are heading down the Eastern seaboard from North Carolina, all three set to converge on the Great Outdoors Jam Independence Day weekend at the Maddox Ranch in Lakeland FL. Strangely, he doesn’t seem a bit worried.

According to Blair’s predictions, Hurricane The Fritz is scheduled to funk through GOJ on Friday, July 3rd. That will be followed in quick succession by Hurricane Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and then Hurricane Big Something Saturday night.

And still Blair doesn’t seemed worried.

That’s because he knows that all three bands absolutely blew it sky high at this past weekend’s The BIG What? in Mebane NC. Eyewitness (ear-witness?) reports are that all three bands turned in good-as-it-gets performances. In the case of host Big Something, they blasted three amazing shows.

The Fritz, based in Asheville, are heading down the coast, stopping in Wilmington NC at Ziggy’s on July 1st, and they’ll bring their funkin’ musical fireworks to the Freebird in Jax Beach on the 4th of July with S.P.O.R.E., Matthew Connor and Vlad the Impaler. Their BIG What? set was a monster.

Baltimore’s Pigeons Playing Ping Pong just hosted their own festival, Domefest, before heading to The BIG What?, and their set Saturday knocked everybody off their feet, adding more and more dimensions to their sound. They join The Fritz at Ziggy’s on the 1st, hit the Charleston Pour House on the 2nd, go to Savannah on the 3rd at the Barrelhouse, stomp into the Great Outdoors Jam for a two-hour romp, and hook up with Displace for the GOJ Decompression Party at the Dunedin Brewery on the 5th.

Big Something will double up with PPPP in Charleston on the 2nd, sip a beer at the Dunedin Brewery on the 3rd, and then follow PPPP on the Great Outdoors stage (with a set from The Hornitz jammed in between). Their brilliant three-hour show Saturday was full of great originals and amazing covers. Many GOJ fans will remember their red-hot set warming up the chilly night air at Gov-Fest.

Both Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and Big Something then head up to West Virginia for the Allgood Festival.

If you’re going to have hurricanes, they might as well be predictable! See you at the Great Outdoors Jam, and don’t miss the Thursday pre-party!
