“YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!” Also, Kwitcherbitchin’!

Listen, there’s this festival coming. Not sure you know about it yet, but it’s a jam-lover’s dream. They’re about to announce another wave of artists (Friday???), so it will get even more amazing.

Looking for NOLA funk? Dumpstaphunk, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and The Nth Power represent. The funk is strong with this one, what with Lettuce, Cadillac Jones, and Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaires on board.

For pure jazz magic of the past and future, it doesn’t get better than Kamasi Washington and his band. Joe Russo’s Almost Dead has been playing legendary shows, Marco Benevento and his modified piano are a trip, and  how about the Benevento/Russo Duo for good measure.

Funk fusion will come in the form of TAUK and Future Rock. Big Something continue to step up big with their Jam Cruise appearance and will be a welcome addition, and Beats Antique are… Beats Antique. Unique.

For those searching for the trippy jam stuff, look no farther than The Disco Biscuits and Aqueous. This has the makings of a fine festival. There is more on the bill, but that is a really solid lineup.

Unless, of course, you’re looking to kvetch about the fact that there’s “not enough jam” at this year’s Suwannee Hulaween. To quote Jimmy Connors:

“YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!”

Oh, yeah, and seven sets of String Cheese, but there’s not enough jam at Hula.

Let’s get real. Hula, like Bonnaroo, is a genre-busting experience. You might even see and LIKE artists you’ve never heard of and from genres you’re certain you don’t like.

It’s what they call the festival experience. Or, to quote another famous American,

“The kingdom of heaven is within.”
