For Those Who Have Never Been To a Bassnectar Currated Event: Spring Gathering; Friends, Family, Bass

So, Bassnectar (Lorin Ashton) absolutely blew our collective minds a couple of weeks ago at his first show of 2018 with two back-to-back nights at Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival, then followed up quickly with an amazing set at Buku. These shows were both amazing in their own right, but in just 16 days Ashton will be hosting Spring Gathering at Chicago’s Donald E. Stephens Convention Center.

In support for the two-day event will be names such as Rezz, TroiBoi, TOKIMONSTA, Ivy Lab, Danny Corn, and Andreilien. Many of these artists are coming off huge 2017s with major spots on many festivals, and could easily headline events on their own, so seeing them in support of the bass-god should be a treat indeed. (I would especially recommend Rezz, who has a tendency to sample Bassnectar tracks in her own shows on a regular basis.) Each artist brings his or her own twist on the bass-heavy dance music style, from trance and glitch to D&B and everything in between. Point being, do not just show up for the main event, or you will be missing a lot of great sets.

These special Bassnectar-curated events are something else altogether from his festival sets. So much thought goes into each and every detail, from specialized lights and screens to custom zones such as The Haven, The Gift Altar, interactive art zones, and usually a few surprises we know nothing about. Seriously, if your only Bassnectar experience has been at festivals, you owe it to yourself to make it to one of his independently-curated events.

Another amazing aspect of these events is all of the custom merchandise that fans will produce and sell: posters, pins, pashmina scarves, and more. If you can think of it and put a bass drop on it, it will be sold throughout the hotel halls throughout the weekend. One of the producers of such merch, www.festiebands.com, even teamed up with us to do an awesome giveaway of some commemorative wristbands for the weekend. Check our Facebook page to find information on that giveaway!
