Todd Rundgren’s Utopia Returns to Dazzle the Country on Huge Tour

Dunno about you, but it’s been 44 years since I saw Utopia blow my mind in Tampa, so I am pretty amped about this ambitious tour being mounted by Todd Rundgren and compatriots. They’ve already played four dates, starting in the Northeast before heading to Texas. The tour resumes tonight at the Broward PAC in . They have four more April dates, 21 in May, and four in June to conclude this massive 33-show juggernaut.

Utopia eventually became Rundgren, Kasim Sulton, Willie Wilcox and keyboardist Roger Schuckett. However, you may have seen this post from Rundgren:

Due to unexpected health issues, unfortunately Ralph Schuckett will be unable to tour with Utopia this spring.

While discussing a replacement keyboardist, it occurred to us that there may be someone out there who already knows the music and vocal parts and would like an opportunity to tour with us. So if you think you could fill those big shoes, we invite you to submit an audio and/or video sample to us.

We are on a very fast track, so the decision will be made this week. Band rehearsals begin in 2 weeks, so you won’t have a lot of time to learn the set. If you still want to try out, send your submissions (mp3s or links) to info@panacea-ent.com. If audio-only, a photo would be nice but not required.

Good luck!
Utopia

Keyboardist Gil Assayas FTW!

When the first album on Bearsville was released in 1974, Todd Rundgren’s Utopia, it created quite a stir for a number of reasons, not the least of which was that they had managed to engineer the album so that Side 1 was 28:30 and Side 2 was 30 minutes long, unheard of in those days (most albums ran 15-22 minutes per side).

Utopia has not toured in 33 years with the exception of a brief Japan tour in 1992, so this promises to be a most welcome return to the stage. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge the tsunami of magnificent posters in support of the tour!!!
