There’s a New Sensation on the Loose, and They’re Called Blübop Fandango!
Blübop Fandango is a new power trio of a different sort with roots that stretch across the nation, from Florida and New England in the East to Colorado and the Pacific Coast in the West.
This exciting new collaboration features Trey Miller on banjo, keyboards and harmonicas; Adrian Bradford on upright bass; and Riley O’Brian on drums, loops, and auxiliary keyboards, and everybody sings, leading to some rousing three-part harmonies. They are well versed in genres including — but by no means limited to — jam, hip hop, bluegrass, rock, and jazz.
Trey Miller is well known on the Florida scene for his group Harmonica Man and the Sawgrass Band, for numerous guest appearances, and his curating of the Lil’ Econ Love Fest, a much-loved music festival held for several years. He shared some insights about the formation of the band and its future:
Our style has been readily compared to Medeski Martin and Wood, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, and the String Cheese Incident. It is our goal to travel the world to learn the dance music’s different cultures and people so that we can continue to make innovative music in a traditionally Americana style.
We are currently touring in Colorado, then returning to Florida and jumping up the East Coast for a bit. It is our lofty ambition to be touring Europe in a similar style next year. Because of our small size and the simplistic nature of our acoustic setup, we have been able to provide a rowdy and innovative street performance alongside our electrified stage shows.
It’s incredible fun to talk about. I have been searching for a band that I could bond with creatively for quite some time; I’m glad to have something new to share with our music community.
