The Fritz: New Year’s Run “Stuck In Between” Fall, Winter Tours
The Fritz, that five-man funk locomotive from Asheville, are wrapping up their fall tour with seven dates in Florida, the last two at the venerated Green Parrot in Key West. Gainesville and Boca Raton: check the band’s Facebook page (link below) for a chance to win tickets to the show!
Their New Year’s run finds them in Richmond at the Broadberry on the 30th before ringing in the New Year at Baltimore Soundstage, both shows with TAUK.
Winter dates start near the end of January, including five shows matched up with fellow funkateers Pigeons Playing Ping Pong.
The band absolutely tore it up at Suwannee Hulaween with a stunning set. We wrote:
Asheville funkmeisters The Fritz were primed and ready to tear the roof off the Campground Stage. The quintet are celebrating the release of their new EP The Echo, and they had a massive set, drawing a great crowd. “Oppenheim” gave keyboard wizard Jamar Woods plenty of opp-ortunity to work out on his bank of equipment, and Jamie Hendrickson shredded with abandon after some Star Wars quotes.
Highlighting their recent shows in tribute to Michael Jackson and Prince, they offered a great medley of “Black or White > Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough” and encored with “1999.” “Stuck in Between” was, as always, stellar, and there was a monster new tune, “Nothing to Find,” with Jake O’Connor’s best bass work of the show.
The new Fritz EP Echo features a magnificent horn section: Natalie Cressman, trombone; Chris Bullock, woodwinds; and Justin Stanton, trumpet. All three are in constant demand in addition to Cressman’s work with the Trey Anastasio Band and Bullock’s and Stanton’s work with Snarky Puppy and the Snarky Puppy Horns.
The Fritz are: Jamar Woods [keyboard and vocals], Jamie Hendrickson [guitar], Jake O’ Connor [bass], Michael Tillis [drums], and Mike “Mikey Spice” Evans [percussion].
