Suwannee Rising is Here to Fill the Wanee & Bear Creek Voids in Our Hearts

The announcement that many of us have been waiting for came today, and we couldn’t be more ecstatic: Suwannee Rising Music Festival debuts at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak April 4-5-6!

Lettuce — Mandi Nulph

The initial lineup lists seven bands, all with ties to SoSMP festivals, including the beloved Bear Creek Music & Arts Festival, Purple Hatter’s Ball, Suwannee Hulaween, and Wanee Music Festival. If these were the only bands on the lineup, we would all be heading there, but more will be announced.

Dumpstaphunk — Bryan Edward

The funk is overwhelming with this one, including Lettuce, Dumpstaphunk, and The New Mastersounds, all of whom helped anchor Bear Creek and played numerous other festivals there. Their names are synonymous with the park.

The New Mastersounds — Brian Hensley

Two more names are inextricably tied to the Wanee Festival: Oteil & Friends and the Melody Trucks Band. Oteil Burbridge played with the Allman Brothers Band every time they played Wanee, and he also performed with his own band. And Melody Trucks is the daughter of the late Butch Trucks, founder of ABB and Wanee. Both those bands will be welcomed with open arms.

The amazing moe. has played both Wanee and Bear Creek and will rock the park for sure. The other band on the list, Ghost-Note, has NOT played at the park, but its founders, Robert “Sput” Searight and Nate Werth, are members of Snarky Puppy, who have ripped it up at Bear Creek!

Lettuce, The New Mastersounds, and Ghost-Note will all play two days at this brand new fest.

MusicFestNews is really looking forward to the lineup as it fills out. Thank you, Paul Levine, for filling two voids in our hearts with one new festival!
