Summer Holiday Concert Series at Tabellas at Delaney Creek (Tampa)

Hey, there’s a new venue in town, and you owe it to yourself to check it out. It’s called Tabellas at Delaney Creek on Causeway Boulevard in Palm River (between Tampa and Brandon), easily accessible from 50th Street or 78th Street from the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway.

Why is that important? It matters because Danny Hernandez, Robert Garcia, Tess Hippy and Wayne Tagle are bringing to you the Summer Holiday Concert Series. The inaugural event will be on Saturday, May 25, from 1 p.m. to sundown, with four great bands lined up. The next holiday event is planned for July 6, and there are further plans to have other shows there on some Saturdays and Sundays.

AMENITIES

Before we talk about the music for the Memorial Day Saturday show, let’s talk about the amenities there. The main stage is outdoors, and there is a large pavilion a short distance back where you can retreat from the sun. Plan on bringing your lawn chairs. There will be outdoor lawn games, and parking is free.

More importantly: they have craft beer, margaritas, sangria, and signature cocktails. Award-winning food trucks will be on hand serving wings, tacos, BBQ, and more!

For this inaugural event, four great bands will light up the stage.

UNCLE JOHN’S BAND

Uncle John’s Band, the venerable Tampa Bay band, have been holding Grateful Dead church for the faithful all over the state (not to mention Chicago during Fare Thee Well). Their faithful renditions of the Dead and other bands in the tradition have made them favorites at festivals and venues all around the Tampa Bay area and are regularly voted Best of the Bay. UJB are: Rich Whiteley, guitar & vocals; Alan Gilman, lead guitar & vocals; Steve Connelly, lead guitar & vocals; Mike Edwards, bass & vocals; Dan DeGregory, drums & vocals; Mike Bortz, drums & vocals; and Casey Otto, keyboards.

DAMON FOWLER

Damon Fowler has been a guitar slinger since he was ten, and he has nine albums to his credit, including last year’s The Whiskey Bayou Session. The Brandon native is a master on guitar and on lap steel as well, and he is always in demand for his great work playing roots, rock and blues, and, man, can he sling some blues! Fowler on guitar and vocals is joined by drummer Justin Headley, but you’ll think you’re hearing a big band!

PRIMITIVE CAMPERS

Rich Whiteley also fronts Primitive Campers, an offshoot of UJB. They play Whiteley’s originals and some choice covers. For this acoustic set, Whiteley will match up with Fil Pate, mandolin and guitar, shooting for a Garcia-Grisman-type sound. Mike Bortz (also UJB) will play percussion, with T.J. Glowicki on bass.

KOZMIC PEARL

Those of an age might reasonably assume that Kozmic Pearl, an outstanding band covering material from the ’60s and ’70s, are well focused on the lady whose last two albums were I Got Dem Ol’ Cosmic Blues Again Mama! and Pearl: Janis Joplin. Kozmic Pearl are: Doti Devane, vocals & saxophone; Terry Devane, guitar & vocals; Bill Pike, guitar & vocals; Joe Gregory, bass & vocals; and James ‘Big Country’ McKnight, drums & vocals.

See? Now you have plans for Memorial Day Saturday! See you at Tabellas at Delaney Creek!
