Pitchfork Music Festival Must-See Artists

Article by Maria Cardillo

Pitchfork Music Festival is a three-day indie fest that takes place in Chicago and is held at Union Park on July 19-20Pitchfork is not your average festival trying to turn a profit on glitter-wearing, bubble-blowing kiddos. This fest deeply prides itself on being an independent festival that creates a chill atmosphere which supports not only new and emerging artists but also local record stores, book stores and art communities of Chicago.

If you’re looking to expand upon your musical library, Pitchfork has you covered. This festival offers a diverse lineup full of artists from mellow indie and RnB to experimental math rock.

When diving into such a remarkable lineup, most acts intrigue me, but here are my top three most notable artists you’ll find playing at Pitchfork.

Khruangbin

Khruangbin, meaning airplane in Thai, truly speaks to their overall musical aesthetic. Pulling most of their inspiration from Asian funk and soul, this three-piece band creates a smooth, groovy vibe to whisk you away. With just two albums out and a third in the works, I can only hope the hype continues to grow around their rare style of music.

Grapetooth

Grapetooth, another band heavily influenced by international sounds, uses their shared love of ’80s Japanese pop to create their goofy vibe that you can’t help but dance to. The band consists of Chris Bailoni and Clay Frankel, guitarist for Twin Peaks and native to Chicago’s forever thriving art and music scene. If Clay is involved, you can expect nothing less than high-energy nonsense during Grapetooth’s set.

Amen Dunes

Amen Dunes takes you on a journey within yourself with his transcendent sounds and raw vocals. Singer-songwriter Damon McMahon creates deeply captivating music with the help of some brilliant collaborators. One of which includes producer Chris Coady, who has worked with bands like Beach House, Grizzly Bear, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and many more. If you are looking to lose yourself in a song, Amen Dunes has you covered.

Pitchfork Music Festival is Right Around the Corner!

Round up your friends, support Chicago’s local businesses, and most importantly check out the vast variety of artists to fill those minds with some beautiful new tuneage. Of course, this is just a few of the bands you need to check out while at Pitchfork; the whole lineup offers a bit of something for everyone. We hope to see you there having the time of your life.
