Americanafest 2019

Americanafest is a five-day festival (September 10-15) sponsored by the Americana Music Association, whose mission is to advocate for American roots music of all kinds… soul to bluegrass, country to blues and beyond. In addition to over 500 performances in over 50 Nashville venues, there are industry conferences and panels covering all aspects of professional music, from merchandising to legal issues in co-writing songs. Some of the 60 or so panels this year will include the making of Will the Circle Be Unbroken II, a joint performance session with Shawn Colvin, Amythyst Kiah and Maria Muldaur, and a session about Ken Burns‘ new movie Country Music.

During the evening, music begins at the venues, usually lasting into the early morning. Some of the venues are legendary Nashville locations like the Bluebird Cafe and the Station Inn.

The annual Americana Awards Ceremony is Wednesday night, September 11, at the Ryman Auditorium. Nominees for Artist of the Year are all women: Brandi Carlile, Rhiannon Giddens, Kacey Musgraves and Mavis Staples. Duo/group of the Year nominees include I’m With Her, Our Native Daughters, Tedeschi-Trucks Band, and The War and Treaty

Some of the announced performers during the week include Delbert McClinton, Keb Mo, Ana Popovic, Hawktail, Molly Tuttle, Nicki Bluhm, Brandi Carlile, the Gibson Brothers, JJ Grey and Mofro, Josh Ritter, and about a hundred additional artists, and there are always surprise guests. It’s a unique experience in Music City, with something for just about any music lover.
