The 12th annual Suwannee Hulaween explodes all over the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park October 30 through November 2, with experiential art at Spirit Lake, fascinating performances at House of Lost, a dance party at the Def Off Limits Stage, and a stunning music lineup. Let’s cruise one more time through the daily schedules.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 30
Two notable differences stand out on opening Thursday, directly interrelated. For the first time in years, festival hosts The String Cheese Incident have a long set (two sets?) scheduled. Historically, they play several sets Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. As a result, SCI keyboard master Kyle Hollingsworth will not play his opening day AMP set.
The Heavy Pets open The Hallows, and later in the evening it will boast EDM nirvana. The AMP will also overflow with great EDM and live electronica. Def Off Limits is just getting geared up.
Spirit Lake rocks start to finish, with Colton Bowlin owning the first set of the fest, followed by superb Florida bands Anemoia and Sooza Brass Band. It blows up when The Infamous Stringdusters invite Sierra Hull on stage with them, topped by two sets of moe. celebrating 35 years on the road and High Fade closing it down.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31 ** HALLOWEEN
This is Halloween, this is Halloween…
Every stage is now in full swing! SCI plays a pair, and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong get the royal treatment, as do Gilberto 77 and Illenium at The Meadow. The Hallows lineup is ridiculous, with Dizgo, SunSquabi, two fresh Disco Biscuits sets, and finally LSZEE.
The AMP rocks, too, with Brad Miller in the midst of some live electronica and then Digable Planets. Did we mention DJ Pee.Wee (aka Anderson .Paak)? A half dozen EDM vibes hit Spirit Lake before The Disco Biscuits return in disguise as TRACTORBEAM for the late-night set! Plenty roaring at Def Off Limits as well.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1
SCI are back with two more sets, including the beloved theme show. The Meadow will also present Parcels, Grace Bowers & the Hodge Podge, and Parlor Greens. Plenty at The Hallows as well with Franc Moody, Glass Beams, and Arc de Soleil.
The AMP is also bouncing, highlighted by Zeds Dead! Over at Spirit Lake, Afrobeta, The Snozzberries, and Captain Midnight Band are up early and the skyrocketing Dogs in a Pile hitting late night.
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2
The Meadow boasts Shadowgrass and the incomparable Molly Tuttle before Goose get the last words there. Susto String Band warm up The Hallows for the Joe Russo’s Almost Dead two-hour set. The AMP, Spirit Lake, and Def Off Limits will keep you dancing, gyrating, and grooving all day long, and Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country get the final say with the festival’s closing set.
