Dunedin Brewery Tuesday with Tim Palmieri, Rob Somerville, Beau Sasser & Mikey Carubba

Mike Bryant has done it again. He has assembled a super show for Tuesday, April 28. In The Moon Tower at Dunedin Brewery, there is a ticketed show with four true jam titans, all of whom have played DunBrew before. Unusual Noise and Dunedin Brewery present Mashing Up the Music of Steely Dan and Jeff Beck. Let’s examine the four titans, who just polished off a dozen sets (or something) at the Green Parrot.

Tim Palmieri, guitar and vocals. Tim emerged with The Psychedelic Breakfast (shortened to The Breakfast) before joining one of the hardest-hitting quintet in jam history: Kung Fu. When Lotus called him to fill the lead guitar role, he stepped in ably. He has played several different events at DunBrew, including monstrous Kung Fu sets.

Rob Somerville, tenor saxophone and vocals. Rob was front and center in the funkalicious juggernaut Deep Banana Blackout. When that band wound down its regular touring, there was Kung Fu, a perfect fit. He also works with former bandmate Johnny Durkins’ Manchado (Latin-Jazz/Salsa & Beyond).

Beau Sasser, keyboards and vocals. Beau began with a band of his called Uncle Sammy. He then had the opportunity with boogaloo jazz master Melvin Sparks. He has also worked with the Alan Evans Trio. Recent projects includes his group Escape Plan, Z3 in trio setting with Palmieri, and Mojo Wagon, another of his projects.

Michelangelo Carubba, drums. We first knew Mikey as the powerful beat behind the color-coordinated Turkuaz. When that band folded, he joined six of his bandmates in forming the brilliant Cool Cool Cool. He has stepped back from that except when they tour with Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew in their magnificent Remain in Light Talking Heads tribute. He tours regularly with Ryan Montbleau.

So, like we said, four true titans in The Moon Tower Tuesday after their weekend hang in Key West. Mashing Up Steely Dan and Jeff Beck. And counting on Beau to throw in some Zappa!
