Future Vintage Jams the Dance Floor at Dunedin Brewery

Something about jamtronic/live electronic music just sends me over the top. Perhaps it’s that trance-dance sensation, the propulsive drum beats, the throbbing bass lines, and the music produced by keyboards and guitars riding on top of all that. Whatever it is, I’m all in.

And Future Vintage, a St. Petersburg-based trio, does it about as well as anyone. I’ve had the distinct pleasure of hearing them more than 40 times in the past five years, and they surprise me by upping their game every time out. It was no different on Saturday, June 30th, at the intimate Dunedin Brewery.

I would also suggest that Dunedin Brewery was the first place I saw Future Vintage in 2013, and every show there has been magical.

If I took notes June 30th, I can’t find them. Doesn’t matter. The boys killed it. Eric Layana lays down such a great groove beat with that ever-present smile. Trevor McDannel has become one of the premier bass players in our area and beyond and does a great job on synth bass as well. And Mr. Keyboards, Matt Giancola, creates luscious funky landscapes with all of his toys, and he’s a monster jazz player as well. Funk, jazz, electronica, rock, jam, hip hop — they have a great range.

They packed the dance floor for most of the night with their deep grooves and superb original jamtronic funk, with a few fun covers thrown in for good measure.

Thanks to our wonderful photographer Mandi Nulph for catching the action! And “substitute” house engineer Andrew Kilmartin (of Serotonic) had everything dialed in perfectly all night!
