Time to Get into Blue Ridge Jam (NOT into a Jam on the Blue Ridge!)

HEY! YEAH, YOU! Near the Blue Ridge Parkway! We don’t care what you had scheduled for TODAY (Saturday, September 22nd). Shelve those plans. Here’s a much better idea:

Head to Leftover Salmon’s third annual Blue Ridge Jam at Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain NC (near Asheville). LoS has invited some incredible friends to come play, giving you hours and hours of magnificent music. Music switches back and forth between the indoor Taproom Stage and the Outdoor Stage.

Bayou Diesel has the honor of kicking the program off with a set in the Taproom. This local quintet plays “traditional and progressive Cajun/zydeco/Mardi Gras dance music.” The perfect way to start your afternoon. [TR 4:15-5:00]

Jon Stickley Trio has the first set outside. This stunning combo has been blowing away listeners from shows and festivals ranging from many traditional bluegrass events to Suwannee Hulaween, and they never fail to delight. Whatever you imagine can be done with guitar, fiddle, and drums, Jon Stickley Trio multiplies that by 1000. [OS 5:00-6:00]

Grass is Dead will greet you inside for the first of their two sets (wrapped around Spafford’s). Grass is Dead is one of Florida’s great Grateful Dead tribute bands, and clearly their approach is through bluegrass. They play with fervor and joy. [TR 5:45-6:30 & TR 7:45-8:30]

Spafford. At this point, you either know… or you don’t… YET. Because they have taken the jamband scene by storm. The Arizona quartet has the cure for whatever ails you will their “electro funk therapy.” We’ve tried it. It works! [OS 6:30-7:45]

Your hosts from Colorado, Leftover Salmon, are the premier purveyors of “Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass.” And practically anything else they want to play. Because they can. Founding members Vince Herman and Drew Emmitt and their compatriots have dedicated decades to their craft, and it shows. [OS 8:30-10:55]

But you’re not done yet! Be sure you catch the late-night set in the Taproom with Horseshoes & Hand Grenades. This Wisconsin quintet is even more fun than their name implies, offering “progressive high-energy string band” music with élan. [TR 11:05-12:35]
