Celebrate Autumn at Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance

The Shakori Hills Community Arts Center in Pittsboro NC will be your home again this weekend for Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance. The music schedule is loaded, their are lots of workshops, and the location is ideal for this wonderful gathering. The community center is a non-profit formed in order to provide an environment for community-building through arts and education for Chatham County NC and beyond.

There are four stages: two large stages, a dance tent, and an intimate cabaret tent. Each will be filled to the brim with an incredible range of music, dancing, yoga, poetry and more activities.

At the center of the fest are Americana’s amazing troubadours Donna the Buffalo, who will play each day of the festival (Thursday-Sunday, October 4-7). And they will be joined by great musicians from around North Carolina and around the country.

THURSDAY

The opening ceremony is at 5 PM. Root Shock, The Phacts, and Laila Our & the Love Riot are just some of the first day’s performers, and Donna the Buffalo with play with Preston Frank.

FRIDAY

You might begin your day with yoga (children’s yoga, too). Galactic Effect, Yarn, Tamboka, Hayley Jan & the Primates, and Emma’s Lounge are on the schedule, with lots more on tap. Square-dancing, a Grassroots pickin’ competition, and drum circle will also get you involved.

SATURDAY

Friday was packed; Saturday is completely slammed with activities and music. Dr. Bacon, Lettuce, Ryan Montbleau, Urban Soil, and two rounds of Donna the Buffalo highlight the full day. There will be clogging, swing dancing, Latin dancing, and a poetry slam throughout the day.

SUNDAY

You’ve made it! You can relax a bit. A songwriters’ circle, School of Rock, morning communion, and yoga are all on tap. So are Locos For Juana, Consider the Source (hybrid acoustic), and Lipbone Redding. The grand finale is a Grassroots All-star jam with Donna the Buffalo and friends as the sun sets, capping off your amazing weekend.
