Dunedin Brewery Oktobeerfest Back on the Streets Again!

One of the greatest signs that fall has arrived (well, it’s Florida, so, sort of) is Dunedin Brewery’s annual Oktobeerfest, a great four-day fling full of music, beer, more music, and more beer, more or less in that order. We made it out for the first two days, and fortunately our L.A. correspondent Mike Nymania was there with camera in hand the whole time to capture the action.

THURSDAY

Oktobeerfest always begins with Literstein Heritage Night, when patrons may purchase liters they can use for the year for discounted refills. Some years the line has been crazy, but this year the line was manageable.

The Paul Childers Band brought their Nashville vibes to open the party on the music front.

FRIDAY

Every Friday at DunBrew starts with the amazing DJ 45Revolver — that’s exactly what he does!

The construction of the complex across the street put some constraints on last year’s festivities, but this marked the return of the street tent and the closing of Douglas Avenue!

And there was the tapping of the special keg!

S.P.O.R.E. made a glorious return to Dunedin, including a ringer on synths. Dressed in lederhosen, he looked remarkably like Michael Lyn Bryant, VP at DunBrew. Steve Honig had an incredible night on bass.

The Reality presented The History of Funk. The setlist tells you everything you need to know. WOW.

[THE REALITY: I Got You (I Feel Good), Jungle Boogie, Superstition > Play That Funky Music > Superstition > Play That Funky Music, Right Place, Wrong Time, Just Kissed My Baby > Loose Booty, Let’s Groove Tonight > Fantastic Voyage > Let’s Groove Tonight, (Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty > Give Up the Funk > (Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty > Give Up the Funk, I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do) > Funky Town > I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do), Do Ya, Back Pocket, P4, All My Time, Sweet Tooth, Set Her Free, Really Don’t Care Anymore, Dancin’ in D]

SATURDAY

Uncle John’s Band had the early shift with their superb blend of Grateful Dead and Dead-inspired music.

Dennis Stadelman and Sonic Stew served up some delicious music for the late afternoon crowd.

Apparently these were also dog days!

Ajeva blasted back into view with a rocking set of killer jams.

The Heavy Pets consider Dunedin their second home and had the honors, closing the night’s music with their usual magic and a lot of local sit-ins!

SUNDAY

The DeLeon Family Oktobeerfest Band!
