Wanee Announces Inaugural Block Party Event

Heartbroken fans of the now defunct Wanee Music Festival can take solace in today’s announcement that The Allman Brothers and Live Nation will be throwing the Wanee Block Party in Fort Lauderdale on March 22 and 23. To be held across several stages at Revolution Live, America’s Backyard and Stache in the city’s downtown entertainment district, the inaugural event will feature Wanee alumni including Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band, who will be teaming up with Cody and Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars on March 22 to form Jaimoe’s Mississippi Allstars.

On March 23 The Marcus King Band with North Mississippi Allstars will headline with The George Porter, Jr., Trio, The Lee Boys, Bobby Lee Rogers Trio and Gabriel Kelley joining them. Fans can also expect what’s sure to be a memorable Wanee Family Jam and more artists to be announced.

Before it was canceled last year by promoters Live Nation, the original Wanee Music Festival ran for 14 years at the Spirit of Suwanee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida, a magical spot that was a huge draw for many fans. Founded by The Allman Brothers Band, the festival hosted Greg Allman, Widespread Panic and The Trey Anastasio Band among a long list of jam band royalty.

The festival suffered a spiritual blow after Greg Allman and Butch Trucks died in 2017 and never felt the same. Even so, fans were devastated to learn that the festival would not be returning and have been anxiously waiting for announcements about its replacement. Whether this will replace the beloved original remains to be seen.
