Five to Put on Your Radar Screen for Sunshine Hootenanny

The sophomore edition of Sunshine Hootenanny visits Florida Sand Music Ranch November 13–15, the fifth in a series of superb, intimate events put on by Sunshine Music & Arts Festivals. There are lots of big names of this year’s lineup such as Eggy, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country, Mountain Grass Unit, Brandon “Taz” Niederauer, and the special Terrapin FAmoe.LY Band featuring Al Schnier and Vinnie Amico from moe.

We wanted to shout out five that might not have crossed your computer screen… just yet. We’re excited! We hope you will be, too!

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 13

  4:20–5:30  Bonnie Blue

The opening set at a festival is incredibly important. At Sunshine Get Down in April, Sauce Pocket absolutely blew the lid off with an incendiary performance.

Bonnie Blue from Jacksonville is the perfect choice to open Hootenanny, one of the very best Southern rock band jam bands roaring today. They truly embody the sound of the original Capricorn Records.

Bonnie Blue are: Bradley Churchman, guitars, vocals; Willis Gore, guitars, vocals; and Adam Kenneway, bass; David Silva, drums, vocals; and Alex Sears, keyboards. [This video is from 2021.]

  7:00-8:30  Magic Beans

At first pass, you might be tempted to call this Denver quartet jamtronic funksters, but that barely begins to describe the huge swath of genres they squeeze into their setlists: funk, disco, rock, soul, country, synth wave, classic rock, and whatever else they want.

Magic Beans are: Kirk Larson, drums; Chris Duffy, bass, vocals; Casey Russell, keyboards, vocals; and Scott Hachey, guitar, vocals.

11:00–late  Bonnie Blue acoustic!

Back for round two!

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14

12:00–1:15  Dandy Lush

Excellent quintet from Dunedin offer up fine original music with the band backing a powerhouse vocalist.

Dandy Lush are: Pam A Lama Songstress, vocals; Adam Barnett, keyboards; Tim Adger, drums; Sladjan Vidic, bass; and Joe King, electric guitar.

  2:30–3:15  Face the Fence

Face the Fence are a wonderful band of young youngsters demonstrating massive chops out of the Sgammato School of Music, where the students are taught stage presence in addition to mastery of their craft. Face the Fence are back after their 2024 Sunshine Get Down set, and we are here for them!

Face the Fence are: Jordan Orange, vocals; Brett Milan, guitar; John Mueller, bass; and Nelson Garcia V, drums.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15

  6:15–7:45  Houseplant

“Louisville-based band blending improvisation, indie-rock energy, lush psychedelic soundscapes, and groove-driven rhythms. New lineup, new chapter.”

Houseplant are: Tavis Conley, mandolin, vocals; Tommy Arnspiger, bass; Ben Atkind, drums; Chris Rodahaffer, guitar, vocals; and Sam Richardson, keyboards, vocals.
