Batter Up! The Inaugural Innings Festival is at the Plate This Weekend

Preview by Mitch Davis

The inaugural edition of the Innings Festival is set to take over Tempe Beach Park from March 23rd to 25th with three days of music, food and baseball-themed fun. Innings Festival is brought to you by the creators of Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits and is sure to be a weekend to remember. The Phoenix area has long been a travel destination in the month of March thanks to the several MLB teams that host spring training throughout the region. This year there will be even more reason to visit thanks to Innings and its headlining sets from rock titans Queens of the Stone Age, emotional folksters The Avett Brothers, and country megastar Chris Stapleton.

There will be plenty of other musical acts to enjoy throughout the weekend, with sounds ranging from hard rock and country to indie folk and synthpop. Friday highlights include the dancy sounds of Sylvan Esso and the foot-stomping pop rock of Young the Giant. Saturday will be full of feel good folk thanks to Lord Huron, The Decemberists and The Head & the Heart. Sunday’s big finish features a series of long-running acts in Dispatch, Citizen Cope and Counting Crows.

Innings Festival looks to be about much more than just the music with several other activities making up the overall experience. The naming of the event is no coincidence. In addition to being within striking distance of your favorite Cactus League team’s spring facilities, you can enjoy baseball on the festival grounds thanks to the batting cage and speed pitch zones that will be between stages. Be sure to stop by on Sunday at 4:45 pm, when Cy Young Award winner (and noted music fan) Jake Peavy will be on hand to give tips on how to improve your fastball.

Quality food and drink options are a must for any quality festival, and Innings will be no different, with food trucks and vendors throughout the grounds. Innings will differ from your average festival by taking the food to the stage. Each day renowned local chef Beau MacMillin will host a Chef Demo on the Left Field stage with themes such as Burger Battle, Food Fight and Bar Crawl.

Head to Tempe Beach Park for a weekend of fun in the sun at Innings Festival. With a combination of top-notch music, interactive baseball experiences, and unique chef demos, it is sure to be an exciting addition the festival scenery.
