There are few cities anywhere that can match the rich musical tradition of New Orleans. Everywhere you turn, there are buskers, club bands, and national treasures. In order for a band to successful be able to emerge from the NOLA scene, it must be able to measure up to the most exacting standards.
We were discussing this several nights ago while watching Naughty Professor throw down a stunning set at a private wedding. The sextet was absolutely on fire, and the precision with which they perform their original compositions is nothing short of jaw-dropping. We mentioned an interesting task: search for the weak link. As if.
Naughty Professor are: “Wild” Bill Daniel, guitar; Noah Young, bass; Sam Shahin, drums; Nick Ellman, alto & baritone saxophones; Ian Bowman, tenor saxophone; and John Culbreth, trumpet. Their first three albums, In the Flesh (live), Until the Next Time, and Out on a Limb (plus an EP) are audio dynamite. And the band’s brand new release, Identity, features numerous guest vocalists and musicians.
Naughty Professor are embarking on their first European tour, where they are certain to make a big splash. These are six incredibly talented musicians with one foot in tradition and the other foot firmly in the future.
